Offshore wind in the race for ocean space: A forecast to 2050

Abstract This paper reports on recent results the race for space in our ocean, based DNVs forecasting efforts into Blue Economy. We find that world will see a large increase usage of ocean area by offshore installations energy and food production, with European growing close to five-fold 2050. If not carefully managed, transition risks triggering conflicts other stakeholders. By introducing Spatial Competition Index (SCI), we propose new indicator measure level competition among industries nature. SCI forecasts 2050 reveal shallow waters shore face significant increases pressure from industries. indicates there is need co-existence be considered wind development projects, developers increasingly consider floating structures.
